Jakarta Traffic - capturing the moment/hours

Recently I have been trying to get some good shots of traffic jams in Jakarta.
Please have a look at these pix and let me know which style you think shows "bad traffic" the best.
    - What is the best angle?
    - Should the perspective be from the side or centred?
    - Should both directions be visible?
    - Is traffic coming to or going away better?

By identifying the best angles, content and situations, then I can take the baddest traffic photo!

Hahaha Lance. When u visit Jakarta in November this year, u will get to experience it for sure...hahahahaa. Do contact Troy when u get there and Troy shall give u a demo on how skillful is his driving..hahaha

Such jam is common in the city, moreso when there is demonstration e.g. by university students. The one I liked most is not here. It features the journey along the highway to Puncak on weekends - the road is a long "car park" all the way to the horizon, including after toll. One can off the engine while in the queue. My friend leaped out the car and took a slow stroll with a cigarette to the bus stop and our car reached there in another 15 minutes! When it is at this stage, both lanes will open up to one direction (up only); the locals of the area will use alternative route or "jalan tikus". When holiday is over, the going down direction will take up both lanes. Traffic police will man the whole road all the way...

No Swimming

OK, so I've done this before and it's not all that funny, but here goes: Another 'No Swimming' sign in Australia where you can't actually go swimming anyway!
Funny? Well the name of this place is ... (wait for it) ... : Riverton!
(and that's actually the river in the photo too)

Hike in forest near Bandung

Entry Tickets.
Forest Trees.
Japanese Caves.
View all 12 photos...
I have sore legs after going for a 16km hike/run in a forest near Bandung. Have a look at the route I plotted on Google Maps here.

The Taman Hutan Juanda national park contains an impressive waterfall and quite uniquely a network of caves built during the Dutch time and then more with slave labour during the Japanese occupation.

Hey, I didn't know you could plot a route on google maps.. that's very useful.

Disappearing view
My view is disappearing FASTER! Now I can clearly see the foundations of the 2nd tower and it's right in the middle!

Click here to see how this used to look when it was green and pretty!

Sorry to hear this.

Fengshui Forsaken

Going, going...
My view is FAST disappearing! Now it clear where the first tower in the new complex will go.

This building is being built by the same mob that started the Sidoarjo Mud Volcano.

Earthquake in Jakarta

Waiting.
Apprehension.
At 12:04am this morning there was a 7.5 magnitude earthquake 100km from Jakarta (and 290km deep). Light fittings swung in houses on the ground; but in towers housing apartments and hotels downtown, the whole buildings swayed for quite some seconds - twice!

I immediately ran more than 10 floors down to the ground floor and outside - along with hundreds of other people.

Here are some shots showing people waiting outside. The mood was very aprehensive and many were shocked. The shake was quite frightening and not knowing at the time where the earthquake was, noone knew if this was just a pre-shock before a mighty quake or if this was the real thing.

As it turned out it was the main event and there were no after shocks - err, yet.

The quake wasn't so serious: in a metro area of 15m people nobody was hurt and nothing fell down. But it was a frightening experience anyway.
More information about the quake here.

Glad everything is ok.

Chicken Blah

ChickenTalk
At Plaza Semanggi shopping centre in central Jakarta I saw this sign advertising Chicken Story.

You are probably familiar with the concept bakeries like BreadTalk and BreadStory. They're everywhere, each one seems to be a me-too and they're all so similar that I forget which one was first.

And what is the nexus between talk and stories and bread anyway?

So when I saw Chicken Story, it made me wonder if we can expect the same for ... CHICKEN?!

At least for Chicken there IS a story, a famous and frequently retold story: Why did the chicken cross the road?

So they sell chicken I supposed?

BK Jakarta Update

5 weeks later Burger King Jakarta STILL has crazy queues! Check out this queue on Friday afternoon...

Haven't got a chance to visit Senayan shopping complex. I finally had a chance to savour Kopi Luwak.
